Awww, thanks 4 the Kudos SPATULA GAL! I had fun posting that thread. Now I can just refer to it whenever debating any of the un-elf-enlightened X-fans! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif
SPATS those were some great answers to SLARTI-SLARTS questions!
(I'm getting really excited about this! This letter is gonna hit 'em like a PSYLOCKE Psychic-knife to the cranium! When we combine our 'powers' it's going to be a scary thing!)
Alrighty then! Lets see if I can answer the 1st two...
What has Marvel done well lately with the elf?
I like that you do try and depict him as an INTEGRAL member of the team. Whether its givng Psylocke and others advice based on experience, trying to boost the morale & spirits of his teammates, being the voice of reason and moral conscience...you get the sense that Kurt's a veteran of the Superhero game and that he helps to keep his fellow X-MEN grounded. I also like that some new aspects of Kurt's abilities have been recently brought to light. Specifically him being able to see in darkness and the fact that he strikes with uncanny accuracy.
What have they done not-so-well?
I understand the need for character growth, but not at the expense of making him too one-dimensional. For me part of the initial attraction to the character was his MULTI-faceted personality. The humor and playfulness, the flirtatious little charmer, the mischievious prankster, the doubt and insecurity, the dedication to his faith and his teammates, his courage and loyalty. Kurt was SO many things and in spite of his appearance seemed like the most 'human' of the X-MEN. It seems that with the choice to have him actively pursuing the Priesthood, youre making him sacrifice too many of the other things that make him an interesting and enjoyable character. I love that Nightcrawler has such a Love for God. It's part of who he is and shows how deep his dedication, loyalty and convictions run. I do feel though, that him NOT being a Priest wont change that...while allowing you to bring back other greatly missed aspects of his personality.
Post my answers to the rest in a bit!

Thanks Spatch and Bamf for taking this seriously.
To Graydon and Shannon Doherty...fun is all well and good. And God knows I indulge in plenty of silly, off-topic shenanigans myself. But, please keep the utterly pointless posts where you call each other names in the other threads like the Mystifie one. Since I think I know who both of you are, I know you are just playing. But come on guys...
And I'm not speaking as a moderator. I am speaking as a concerned member of this message board who is trying to do something hopefully worthwhile. If Nightcrawler suddenly didn't exist, where would you go to call each other nasty names?

What has Marvel done well lately with the elf?-
Being one of the few who actually enjoyed the priest bit i like how Kurt has been portrayed as a strong figure.Being the voice of reason. He even showed his leadership qualities in X-Men # 106 by making peace with the Neo,overshadowing rogue in my opinion.Thats about it.
What have they done not so well?-
Although i did like aspects of the priest thing I felt that Kurts obvious display of leadership skills and pasion for the X-Men just proved that Kurt is being wasted in the Priesthood.I think urt should take a more active leadership role by either becoming the official leader or as a co-leader or an advisor and leave the Priesthood ultimately.I also think alot of Kurts personality has been scacrificed due to this current take on his character.Kurt is such a rich character,Loyal, honest, smart, funny, caring, charming ,witty, spiritual, adventurous and a lover.I believe that all of these qualities must be explored for Kurt to reach his full potential.the appeal of this character is that hes not a one note character.Hes multi-faceted.Everyone can take something with them with this character.
What would you like to see done in the future?-
I would like to see Nighty kick more but! :D stop having Wolverine and rogue saving the day all the time.I dont want to see Kurt as the comic relief,he can be funny without being the "class clown".No mascot treatment hes deserves better being the seasoned and stablished hero that he is.I would also like seeing kurts family finally being addressed. We have not seen any interaction with him and Mystique sinse Unlimited #4 years ago.

This is really hard to do, not having a lot of things to reference, but I'll see if maybe I can add something. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

Even if the actual storytelling wasn't wonderful, the recent Unlimited story was at least a glimpse into how he's feeling about Colossus' death. With him leaving the X-men, this is a good opportunity to explore his character and reactions to recent events - fans have their hopes up (a good thing, usually resulting in good sales), let's see if Marvel will deliver.

*Sighs* I don't think I have anything to add to this that hasn't already been said a lot (though that goes for most of this post...).
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>What would we like to see done in the future?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
Hopefully the fleshing out of his reactions to recent events and perhaps losing the priest bit. I love seeing characters exploring their faith and I believe this could be done really well if handled with depth and thought.

I loved the early days of Excalibur. Kurt had such a vivid personality that he stood out - one of the things that makes him such a wonderful character.
Gah. I might come back and change a couple things later, but *shrugs* at least I tried. ^^;

Hey, guys, I'm just kickin' this back up to the top. It kinda died, and I just wanted everybody who wants a chance to post to get one.
If my little question things are lame or repetitive, feel free to do it your own way.
I also figure a lot of the stuff that went into the Ultimate post could be included here.

I am not sure I can really add much to this; you all pretty much pegged what I feel. However, here goes my opinions:
Why I love Kurt: Kurt has such a rich character. He is the swashbuckling, damsel-rescuing, fun-loving, charming, Erol Flynn for the 21st century; however, he is never insincere, phoney, or incapable of being serious. For all of his bravado, he knows about pain and possesses insecurities about how people will accept him due to his appearance. Despite the difficulties he has experienced, he has a deep faith that dictates his actions. He is the loyal friend(though NOT A MASCOT) who can show you a good time just as easily as give you a shoulder to cry on.
Where did it go "wrong:" I don't think the priest angle was such a bad idea. I think it could have been interesting. At the very least, I applaud the exploration of this side of Kurt's personality. I guess my only "complaint" is that he is so often relegated to the "supporting character" role. I know not every character can play lead all the time; however, I would like to see stories that share the wealth and give every character his or her time in the spotlight. Kurt has SO much to give if given the opportunity.
What really frightens me: Seriously perverting Kurt's character. I would rather he stay in comic limbo than turn into a grossly twisted character. The writers explored a darker Kurt during the latter part of Excalibur, and while it wasn't my favorite incarnation, it made sense to me given the storyline. The thought of the "perverted priest" turn really, REALLY scares me. However, I hope it was just a stream-of-consciousness thought that won't really go anywhere.
That's my two cents. Hope it helps in some way! Tell me if I can do anything else to help with the campaign!

Sorry, I havent been back to finish my answers SLARTI! (Been away for a couple of days..) Great answers everyone!
O.K. on to question # 3...
What would we like to see done in the future?
I simply would love to see the characters' vast potential REALLY explored. Personality, powers, mysterious past, supporting cast..EVERYTHING. You have such a 'Gold Mine' of a character in Kurt Wagner. It's almost painful for longtime fans to watch the SAME old X-characters, year after year constantly hogging the spotlight, while Nightcrawler runs about perpetually underused and virtually untapped. It would be great if Nightcrawler was given just a portion of the effort expended on the afore-mentioned 'spotlight hogs'. The awakening of fans to just how 'cool' Nightcrawler is can only benefit the franchise! Nightcrawlers' obvious popularity in X-MEN:Evolution is a great example of this.

Aaand finally question #4...
What were his best past incarnations?
Hands down, Nightcrawler circa Claremont/Davis and Davis Excalibur. Because It incorporated ALL of the things I enjoyed most about Nightcrawlers' previous incarnations, while successfully showing that the character had grown as well. Him becoming the strong leader felt NATURAL. It was the logical direction that you imagined the character would take. The consumate team player evolved into the consumate leader.
All this without sacrificing/bastardizing the old Kurt Wagner that we knew and loved.
I also liked how Davis in particular actually took the time to explore Kurt's abilities. He put the character through his paces instead of just treating him like interesting looking 'wallpaper.' As a result we got to see different circumstances and situations bring out different things in Nightcrawler. Things we never had a chance to see while Kurt was in the hands of other creators. You really got the sense that Alan Davis ENJOYED writing and Drawing the Fuzzy Elf, and as a consequence we enjoyed Kurt too.
Geez, it only took me like a MONTH to come back and finish that!
